ARMED with a speed camera, councillors Heather Kidd and Vivienne Parry are positioning themselves in Ludlow over the coming weeks to get the hard – and possibly fast – evidence of speeding.

They will be checking speeds on Sheet Road, one of the main feeds off the busy A49 trunk road into town, after hearing the concerns of people living in the area.

Coun Parry has had many complaints over the last three years about heavy lorries, vans and cars hurtling along Sheet Road.

“Many people, especially boy racers, ignore the 40mph speed limit,” said as Vivienne Parry.

“Drivers seem in a great hurry to get everywhere. The railway bridge is very dangerous and we would like to see the speed limit dropped to 30mph.”

“The speeding issue was raised with us when we were knocking on doors in the Sheet Road area,” said Coun Kidd.

“Residents are concerned that the traffic is travelling too fast. We will give the results of our survey to the police.

“When the we did this in Church Stretton, the police helped the community set up a speed watch zone.

“We believe that the speed limit on Ludlow’s Sheet Road should be lowered and/or traffic calming measures introduced,” she said.
