Points lost to late Wednesfield goal

3:06pm Wednesday 13th August 2008

INCIDENTS in the first and last minutes of each half shaped the outcome of an entertaining opening fixture in the Premier Division of the Sport Italia West Midlands Regional League at the SBS Stadium.

Facing a very useful side, the Town management would have taken a point with their reconstructed squad. And when they conceded goals in the first minute of each half and trailed 3-1, they would have feared the worst.

But with the visitors having a midfield man sent off in the final minute of the first half, and their side fighting back to lead 4-3 going into the final minute of the game, Ludlow ended up disappointed after conceding a late goal.

Town went a goal down when keeper Anthony Prince conceded a penalty after his defence got in a tangle during the opening exchanges. Dan Price grabbed an equaliser minutes later; he went around his marker and bent the ball around the Wednesfield keeper.

The visitors went back in front on the half hour.

The half-time plans were quickly torn up as Town kicked off and played the ball back to Ryan King, who set up the visitors' striker with his mis-placed backpass.

This set-back stirred Town into action, with Sean Evans meeting a Dale Williams cross to reduce the deficit. Minutes later, Evans was tripped in the area and Williams converted the penalty.

Ludlow took the lead when Evans slotted in his second goal after a run and cross by Dean Richards.

Wednesfield rallied and ended a strong final 10 minutes with an equaliser.
