ACTION is being taken to improve the take up of a waste food collection service at Ludlow's stallholders' market.
Tina Middleton from South Shropshire District Council told a meeting of the Ludlow Town Council's markets sub-committee that since the service was introduced last April take up had been disappointing.
"The district council introduced a domestic food waste collection service 15 months ago and has extended this to commercial waste but the system seems to have fallen down in the market," she said.
But market trader Cheryl Pugh said that the scheme presented problems to people working on the market because the blue bin for the waste is too far away.
"The bin needs to be in Market Square rather than the car park which is too far away. It is not possible to leave the stall for a lengthy period of time to take a bag of waste to the bin," said Cheryl, who added that at times disposable bags for the waste were not available.
It was agreed to look at the option of moving the food waste bin closer to the market and at improving the access to waste bags.
