Fit child safety locks on windows plea
WEST Midlands Ambulance Service is asking parents and guardians to do a home safety check after a series of incidents where children have fallen from open windows.
The service has experienced an unusually high number of incidents around the region where children have fallen from ground floor and first-floor windows and been injured.
Trust group station manager Rob Marsh said "During the recent warm spell, people have been inclined to keep windows open, especially upstairs in houses. Unfortunately we have recently had a spate of incidents where children have managed to climb through windows and fall to the ground, sometimes onto concrete below."
He added: "Obviously this has the potential to cause serious injury. Fortunately none of the injuries sustained have been fatal. Children involved in the incidents so far are between the ages of 18 months and seven years who are quite inquisitive with regards to open windows."
"We would ask that people review the safety in their homes and where appropriate fit child safety locks to their windows to ensure that children cannot open them and climb through."
